Coaching Philosophy

My vision as a coach is to build a program of significance in the world of college basketball. My team will be built like a strong family and will only include athletes, coaches, and managers that share the same strong moral and family values that I do. I will give great attention to strengthening the relationships with the members of my team by having them around each other a great deal of time on and off the court. My players will treat each other with a great deal of respect and upperclassmen will act as big brothers and mentor the freshman being brought into the program, out of high school. The players that I recruit into the program will be high character people, as well as tough and aggressive basketball players. My team will be involved in the local community, as well as be engaged on the campus. We will positively support all other campus sports teams and organizations in hope that they might support us the same way during our season. We will be courteous and polite to all faculty and staff members around the campus no matter what their job is. In the classroom we will fulfill our obligations as “student”-athletes and we will be the best that we can in this aspect. All players are expected to attend class regularly unless excused. We will do our best to positively represent our school. We will travel in shirt and tie and will be well groomed.

The fundamentals of our program will be based on hard work, unity, and accountability. We will be the hardest working basketball team in the country both on and off the court. As a coach, I will put forth a great deal of time recruiting, teaching, and performing all of my other various duties. I expect the same things from my players and staff members. Nobody is ever successful without hard work and we are no different. If we do not push and discipline ourselves as a team our opponents will do it for us. We may not win every game but I will guarantee that we will always put forth our best efforts and never beat ourselves. My next two coaching philosophies are grouped together. As a team and family, we must be able to trust one another on the court. In order for this to happen everybody involved in the program has to be accountable for their own actions. If everybody takes ownership of themselves and does the job or task assigned to them then our on-court execution will be a lot smoother. When everybody on our team is accountable for what they are supposed to be doing our team will become much more united.

As a team we will all share the common goal of being one of the elite teams in the country. We will strive to constantly be ranked in the top 25 nationally and we will put ourselves in position to win the conference championship. We will play a challenging schedule to prepare us for conference play and the national tournament. We will win with class and if we do lose, we will lose with dignity and always show good sportsmanship. We will never give up on a play and will work hard to compete for all forty minutes. As a coach my main job is to be a teacher and mentor and to help influence my players to be successful on the court and even after their days of playing basketball are over. My goal is to have every member of my program leave as a better person than when they first arrived. They will be challenged daily, and will learn many life lessons.
